Tacos, Pizza and Burgers
Tacos, Pizza and hamburgers are my favorite foods. Each of these foods although distinctly different is equally enjoyable. Each option is often served as the main course with side dishes like, tortilla chips, guacamole, french fries, or breadsticks. I can’t think of too many restaurants that serve all three to perfection. So it is nearly impossible to have them together unless you’re a wizard in the kitchen (#HarryPotter). In fact, because they are my fav, I often say to friends “if I was stranded on a desert island and could only choose one food to eat while stranded I would choose one of these three (likely tacos).
While I was reading through the Bible this week Matthew 22:37 struck me. It says “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all you mind”. This is the greatest commandment and, to make a cute correlation I would call it “God’s main course”. The reason this verse struck me is that God calls us to love, yes, but He brings up three specific components: your heart, your soul, and your mind. Each is distinctly different but possesses great power in our lives. Has your head ever told you to do something your heart didn’t want to do? Or has your heart ever leaped in excitement while your brain couldn’t logically explain the excitement? In this verse we have the opportunity to love God in three unique ways. By loving God in all three areas we can better live out the wonderful life God has called us to.
Personally, my most observable struggle is being overly intellectual with God, at the expense of my heart. At times I refuse to be joyful not wanting to get overly carried away with a moment. This leaves me, partly ineffective as a witness because people will seek me out for wisdom but are rarely touched by my zeal for life.
In closing, what does it mean to love the Lord with your heart, soul and strength? And how has your life blossomed in the areas you have given over to God?
